L’architetto francese Pierre Parat è morto a Parigi all’età di 91 anni. La sua fama, insieme a quella del collega Michel Andrault, è legata alla Basilica Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime di Siracusa, a forma conica con costoloni in cemento armato che raggiungono un’altezza complessiva di 103 metri.
Pierre Parat e Michel Andrault, progettarono il Santuario a seguito di un bando di concorso internazionale le cui opere strutturali furono progettate dall’ingegnere Riccardo Morandi.
La costruzione ebbe inizio nel 1966, e a causa dell’estrema modernità del progetto vi furono fin dall’inizio molte polemiche da parte della cittadinanza, e si concluse solo nel 1994 con l‘inaugurazione il 6 novembre da parte di Papa Giovanni Paolo II.
