The Column

On 19 September 1953, the same year as the lachrymation, the image was moved from Via degli Orti St. to the nearby Euripide Square.

The image was placed upon a column of white stone and there it remained until 28 August 1968, when it was transferred to the newly completed and consecrated Crypt.

The column which for a whole of 15 years held the wondrous plaque has been transferred to the Shrine park where it is surrounded by a lovely rose bed.
