The Park
The Shrine Park, projected by the landscape designer
Nino Attardo, extends 35,000 square meters and is
comprised of the planted areas and the service areas:
walk ways, The Way of the Cross, the Mysteries of
the Rosary, the Column holding a replica of the
image of Our Lady of Tears, the welcome area for
pilgrims. The planted area is 17,000 square meters.
The park project foresees the presence of more than
200 plant species: trees, palms, evergreen shrubs,
flowering shrubs, woody and herbaceous perennials
and waxy plants.
The goal of the project is to render the Shrine a
colourful place year round, colors than change
according to the seasons, thus creating an oasis of
silence, of peace, of beauty in which it is possible
to meditate, to be recollected, to pray, to meet
with one's brothers and sisters. |
